Water Quality Analysis and Modeling
Hydrosphere offers a comprehensive set of water-quality services. We have helped clients achieve a variety of water-quality objectives including environmental permitting, TMDLs, FERC re-licensing, watershed-based trading, trophic state evaluation, limiting factor analysis, and watershed management.
- Data analysis, database management and water-quality assessment
- Design and implementation of monitoring programs
- Mathematical modeling of surface water and groundwater systems
- Watershed modeling and impacts to surface water bodies
- Watershed-based trading
- Recommendations for restoration and management options
Our water-quality services include:
Water quality modeling is an area of particular expertise. We have modeled the fate and transport of a variety of water-quality constituents in natural surface waters.
- Nutrient/food chain modeling (eutrophication modeling)
- Modeling of temperature, toxic substances, metals, and sediment
- Simulation of constituents in rivers, streams, lakes, and reservoirs, often using water body hydrodynamics
- Application of QUAL2E, CE-QUAL-W2, CE-QUAL-R1, WASP5, BETTER, HEC-5Q, and WQRRS
These projects have included:
In situations where an ‘off the shelf’ model would not meet project requirements, we have developed customized models. Hydrosphere has also developed watershed models to support surface water-quality models by quantifying pollutant loadings from the direct drainage basin.
