Geographic Information Systems
The advent of GIS technologies has enhanced the study of natural resources. In fact, a majority of Hydrosphere's projects now have a GIS component. Hydrosphere has a reputation for delivering a clean, consistent product that clients are able to integrate into their larger systems seamlessly. We offer experience with a wide variety of GIS software, utilities and techniques, and hold licenses for ArcINFO, ArcView and MapInfo. We maintain, in-house, a substantial body of natural resource GIS data, which we supplement with a comprehensive knowledge of the types of data available from public sources. When public or proprietary data are not available or are not cost-effective, we can capture original spatial data by scanning, digitizing or field collection. Hydrosphere's GIS staff is familiar with all common coordinate systems, conversion from one coordinate system to another, and geo-referencing. For several projects, we have collected and converted data from and to a variety of sources and formats; these include common proprietary formats (e.g. ESRI, DWG, DXF) and public formats (e.g. DLG, DEM, SDTS and TIGER). We have also created web-based GIS data delivery systems for clients, allowing them to efficiently distribute data to study team members.
