Environmental Assessment and Permitting

Hydrosphere regularly performs environmental studies related to specific regulatory and permitting requirements for government agencies, applicants and other entities involved in permitting processes, including citizen and environmental groups.

We offer our clients the skills to:

  • Evaluate the environmental consequences of a project
  • Develop cost-effective mitigation procedures
  • Design and implement public involvement programs
  • Ensure compliance with permit requirements
  • Critically review environmental studies

We have developed a thorough understanding of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Clean Water Act compliance requirements.  Hydrosphere's scientists and engineers provide technical expertise in surface and groundwater quality evaluations, water quality modeling, pollutant fate and transport, mine site assessments and discharge permit compliance.  Field data collected through our monitoring programs are often used as input for dynamic water quality models or statistical analysis.

Wetlands are also a common critical issue for many development projects.  Project authorization by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) is often required through issuance of a 404 Permit (Section 404 of the Clean Water Act).  Hydrosphere has dealt with all phases of wetland issues including wetland delineation, impact assessment, preparation of 404 Permit applications, mitigation plan design, construction, and monitoring.  We have developed an excellent working relationship with the COE and other federal agencies that oversee the wetland protection program.

We have expertise in all types of environmental permits including:

  • FERC Relicensing
  • Special Use Permits
  • Clean Water Act - Section 404 Permits
  • NPDES Permits
  • Dam Construction and Enlargement Permits
  • 1041 Land Use Permits
  • Various local permits
