GIS Compendium
The GIS Compendium discs offer access to station location and parameter measurement summaries for all streamflow, climate and water quality stations in the USGS WATSTORE database, the NCDC TD3200, TD3240 and TD3260 databases, and the EPA STORET database. Station information includes the state, county, administering agency, Hydrologic Unit Code, longitude, latitude, elevation, and station type. The parameter measurement summaries include starting and ending dates of the data record, number of years and number of observations for the data record, and the maximum, minimum and average of the data.
Included with the station information are GIS coverages in both ArcView (or PC ArcInfo) and MapInfo formats. These coverages include state, county and hydrologic unit code polygons, reach1 arcs and station points.
Stations for the entire United States are available on 11 regional discs.
Use it as a reference tool to:
Easily locate stations using free Windows access software. You can locate stations by any of the attributes of the station or the data records. The discs offer you a ready tool for finding the stations that meet criteria you have for a study. For example, in a flood study, you might want to find all the stations in a given drainage that measure streamflow and precipitation and that have more than 10 years of data. Such a query is easily done on a GIS Compendium disc, locating both USGS stream gauge stations and NCDC rainfall stations that meet the required criteria.
Use it as a mapping tool to:
Quickly map stations in either ArcView or MapInfo using any or all of the provided GIS coverages.
You can easily relate the station points to their parameter measurement records and gain access to the statistics for those records. You can then find stations of interest by either their location or their measured data. For example, you could locate all the stations around a river confluence that measure certain water quality parameters (for example, Dissolved Oxygen, DDT concentrations, or trace metals).
Combine it with our other discs
The data on the GIS Compendium discs are built from our standard Hydrodata and Climatedata discs. Once you have determined what stations are of interest to you, you can access the actual data measured at that station from those discs. Simply save the station list to a file and import that list into the appropriate disc. You then have access to all the data and statistics for those stations.
