John H. Gerstle
Senior Engineering Manager
Mr. Gerstle has over 30 years' experience in water resources engineering and environmental resource management.
He specializes in the management of water resources and environmental studies in the western US and abroad. His clients have included the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations and the governments of Norway, Germany, Sweden, Tanzania, Nepal, Laos and Bhutan. Mr. Gerstle's overseas activities deal with the institutional and physical aspects of environmental and water resources management.
Mr. Gerstle has undertaken water resources and environmental studies and provided expert testimony for the US Department of Justice and the US Fish and Wildlife Service in courts of law. Mr. Gerstle's experience also includes expert testimony in Colorado Water Courts and the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board. He has conducted environmental impact studies, analysis of river treaties and water rights, multi-purpose project feasibility studies, and master plan development for river basins. Mr. Gerstle has also assisted clients with a wide variety of environmental permitting issues.
Prior to joining Hydrosphere, he served as UNDP Regional Programme Advisor for Water Resources Management and Environment in the Himalayan Region, following 2-1/2 years as advisor to the Planning Commission, Royal Government of Bhutan.
Mr. Gerstle also serves as Technical Advisor for the Western Water Project of Trout Unlimited, a non-governmental organization.
His work has been presented at numerous conference proceedings and published in the refereed journals, Journal of Biodiversity and Conservation and Journal of Applied Vegetation Science.
Mr. Gerstle holds SMCE and CE degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BA in Chemistry from the University of Colorado.
