John C. Carron
Engineering Manager
Dr. Carron is an engineer and project manager with 17 years' academic and professional experience in water resources engineering, simulation and optimization modeling, reservoir operations, and geographic information systems. He has particular expertise in the development and use of decision support systems to address a wide range of water resource management problems including EIS studies, reservoir operations, river and reservoir water quality, stochastic hydrology, hydropower generation, water rights allocation, and surface/groundwater and surface/atmosphere interactions.
Dr. Carron's current projects include hydrologic and reservoir operations studies in the Pecos River. This work involves analysis of reservoir operations, surface water and groundwater hydrology, water rights, water supply, and interstate compact issues. In addition to his work on the Pecos River, Dr. Carron has recently conducted reservoir operation, streamflow, and water quality modeling studies in the Colorado River and South Platte River basins. Other recent projects include drought management and modeling studies using hydrology reconstructed from tree-ring records.
Prior to joining Hydrosphere, Dr. Carron was a research assistant at the Center for Advanced Decision Support for Water and Environmental Systems, where he designed, implemented and tested various parts of the RiverWare decision support system. He also trained USBR and TVA personnel in the use of RiverWare.
Dr. Carron's work has been published in the refereed journals, Water Resources Research and the Journal of Geographic Information and Decision Analysis. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado, an MS in Geography from the University of Colorado and a BS in Mathematics from Colorado College.
