Rebecca E. MacKnight

Staff Geologist II/Water Resources Scientist

Ms. MacKnight has 7 years’ combined academic and professional experience in geology, hydrology, and resource management.

She has conducted extensive field research and mapping, and has proficiency with geologic, hydrologic, and biologic sampling. She also has experience in environmental data analysis, technical writing, GIS, and laboratory techniques relating to sedimentology and petrology. Ms. MacKnight has worked on a variety of projects with multiple stakeholders and has developed positive working relationships with both clients and regulators. Ms. MacKnight has completed projects in groundwater and surface water quality, litigation support, and environmental site assessment.

At Hydrosphere, Ms. MacKnight's projects include environmental permitting and assessments and field sampling. Prior to joining Hydrosphere, Ms. MacKnight worked for the USGS conducting geologic mapping in Northern California and developing GIS-based map products, as well as studying anthropogenic impacts to nearshore environments off Hawaii for her MS research. She also translated scientific information relating to geology and water quality for resource managers at NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

Ms. MacKnight’s research has been published in a variety of government and peer-reviewed publications, including Estuarine, Coastal, and Shelf Science and NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuaries Conservation Series. She holds a BA in Geology from Amherst College and an MS in Earth Sciences from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
